When you are in North America you have to visit the Great Plains. The majestic and beauty of not only the plains but the one animal that symbols America is the American Bison. As you watch you will notice that the bison only eats grass and sedge. This is amazing because this animal is an average 6 feet tall and 900- 2,000 lbs.
Some people say that a bison and a buffalo are the same. There is a slight difference between the two. A bison has a big head, large shoulders and a big hump which makes looking at this animal in person terrifying. A buffalo are only in Africa and South Asia. While a bison, lives in North and South America. A bison has 2 layers of fur to protect its body from the summer heat and the cold winter. Another separate feature from a buffalo is its horns. A buffalo has long horns, while a bison has small and sharp horns.
What is interesting about the bison is how fast the animal can run. Even though the bison is a big animal, it can reach up to 40 mph. That is fast for the amount of weight it has. One of the most important thing on the bison is its hump. The hump is a muscle that allows the animal to run into anything. In Yellowstone National Park the bison fossils have shown that they have lived their continuously since prehistoric times. Also, the bison is the world’s largest land animal in North America.
